Basic Appearance
Their defining features include multiple eyes, gaping holes in their claws, and draconic or lizard-like attributes. Occasionally Eyedra are born with more humanoid hands and feet, or with wings and tails more usual of actual dragons. They have an eye on their forehead and bellybutton, these vertical eyes are capable of seeing, just like normal eyes, but allow for a greater field of view. It is very difficult to sneak up on an Eyedra. Their claws are incredibly durable and dangerous, capable of digging and carving out stone. Eyedra must be very mindful of them.

It is very difficult to sneak up on an Eyedra. Their claws are incredibly durable and dangerous, capable of digging and carving out stone. Eyedra must be very mindful of them. Below is the common scales of the Eyedra: Culture
Stories, epics, legends- these are the most vital things to an Eyedra. Who to remember, what to remember, the heroes, the adventures, the tragedies!
Carvings Carving is an essential part of Eyedra life in a way. Every Eyedra wants carvings of themselves, their deeds, their memory. Their homes, their cities, their furniture- all is imbued with images of Eyedra, family, friends, and famous people. Not every Eyedra carves wood, stone, or bone. But those that do have both strict regulations and a lot of money. It's a crime to carve/commission falsehoods too, but a crime that some nobles are willing to commit. The punishment is imprisonment, and the carving destroyed. Death The beliefs of death hold that Eyedra live on in their carvings. Images of their deeds help them remember who they were, and give them eyes to watch over the world. If and when all their carvings fade or are destroyed- Eyedra believe they will die again, and to cease existing. The dead can't remember their time alive, and can only learn through observing the world. They are considered able to recognize their own image, but nothing else. Falsehoods confuse and gaslight dead Eyedra as far as beliefs go. That's why it's a crime to carve fake events and deeds that an Eyedra committed. |
Biology
Eyedra have skin, bones, flesh comparable to humans with exceptions. They also range to human height or taller- females are typically much taller.
Their scales are hard and durable like armor, and their claws are a very viable weapon comparable to iron swords. If Eyedra are born with the rarer smooth scales, they aren't as dense and protective, but still a grade above human skin. Their blood is red, unless they have the Green Marking Acrid Ichor, then it's green and acidic. Aside from acidic blood, humans acknowledge Eyedra to break some standard laws of biology. The middle finger of their claws has full mobility and strength, despite lacking muscles and tendons in the palm- where the hole is. The incredibly rare eyes of female Eyedra can be open an open abyss, while males sometimes have eyes that glow with an eerie light. Love and Family Structure
Love and Sexuality
Love and marriage can be mutually exclusive to Eyedra- but most prefer a loving marriage outside of nobility. Marriage There is approximate 10 females to 1 male Eyedra. Society is largely run by females, but only due to sheer number. Family dynamics can be very different, a portion of female Eyedras never get married. Marriage can consist of any number of Eyedra, of any particular gender, but the typical max is four to five Eyedras in a marriage. Inversely, because the population is divided so unevenly, it is socially acceptable and common enough that some Eyedra females may never marry or raise kids. Marriage is often a grand affair where friends and family bring lots of food and elaborate gifts- including a house! Because polyamory is well practiced, but the cost of weddings is so high, marrying twice in a year is considered fraud. Some Eyedra wait until they have two partners until they marry, and hold the ceremony for all at once. |
Eggs and Children
But whose the mother?
When they have children, typically the mother Eyedra has a temporary leave from work, while another, typically any male, works in her stead. Not all females in a marriage have children, either. Having children outside of a marriage is difficult, because there is less security and stability. If a community of Eyedra helps depends on the towns and their attitudes. Typically Outposts are very protective of their young and will help no matter what. The mother holds the children for about 3 months, then lays eggs which are protected and warmed for two months. Children Children hatch from their eggs in about two months, then claw their way out of the leathery container. Sometimes, they need help. These children are raised by the whole family, and often apprentice to whichever parent needs the help. Schooling is not required, but juvenile Eyedra are not allowed to leave their hometown on their own. Eyedra are considered responsible for their own actions, and punishable by law, by age 10. At age 20, they are considered a full adult and may leave the caves of their home and attempt to find work elsewhere if they wish. An Eyedra may live to be 150 years old. Around 1.5 times the life of a human. |
